Level 1 Drought declaration for Georgia

Due to the persistent drought, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD} has revised the current drought response to a Level 1 Drought declaration for Georgia (see Map). No additional watering restrictions have been issued above those already in place for the past several years. The City of Calhoun Water System does not have any type of water supply shortage!

Outdoor watering as per the existing guidelines may continue under the Level 1 declaration. The existing outdoor restrictions are as follows:

PUBLIC NOTICE FOR MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF CALHOUN

Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-132 and O.C.G.A. 21-2-9 (b) a municipal general election will be held for the City of Calhoun on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the Calhoun Recreation Department located at 601 River Street, Calhoun, Georgia from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Qualifying for the municipal general election shall be held at the Calhoun City Hall located at 226 S. Wall Street, Calhoun, Georgia, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019 and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.  Those positions that are up for election are:

Mayor-Incumbent, James F. Palmer-Qualifying Fee $432.00

Council Post #1-Incumbent, Jackie Palazzolo-Qualifying Fee $252.00
Council Post #2-Incumbent, Al Edwards-Qualifying Fee $252.00

School Board Post #4-Incumbent, Eddie Reeves-Qualifying Fee $1.00
School Board Post #5-Incumbent, Tony Swink-Qualifying Fee $1.00

Early voting will begin and absentee ballots will be available at the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office on Monday, October 14, 2019.  Office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  The last day to cast your ballot early or to request an absentee ballot is Friday, November 1, 2019.  The Gordon County Board of Elections Office is located in the Gordon County Government Plaza, 215 N. Wall Street, Calhoun, Georgia. 

The last day to register to vote for the municipal general election is Monday, October 7, 2019.  Registration is available at the Gordon County Board of Elections Office, City Hall or other locations as required by Georgia Law.

2019 Qualifying Candidate Information

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-131(1)(A), the following qualifying fees were set by the City of Calhoun City Council during the regular City Council meeting of January 14th, 2019.  

Municipal Office Qualifying Fee
Mayor $432.00    
City Council Member- Post 1, Post 2 $252.00    
School Board Member- Post 4, Post 5 $1.00    

Qualifying for the offices listed above will be held at City Hall located at 226 South Wall Street, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019 and will end at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.  The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. 

Qualifying packets are also available at City Hall.
