Fire Department
Mission Statement
Our professional fire fighters are committed to providing cost effective emergency services to the citizens of Calhoun and Gordon County through intensive training, and by responding to unwanted fires, mitigating hazardous materials releases, facilitating in search and rescue operations, and responding to other man made or natural disasters and emergency situations. Some of the other Fire Department services provided are inspections and fire code enforcement services. There are public safety education and fire safety classes conducted for the schools and business and industry.
The Fire Department protects a residential population of over 15,000 and a service delivery population of over 50,000. The coverage area includes industrial parks, the downtown commercial district, schools, a technical college, a hospital, airport, various types of residential properties, major state routes, and the interstate along with other outlying properties.
There are three fire stations with a fourth in the planning stages. A new Fire Department training facility is being constructed at Fire Station 2. These stations cover approximately 12 square miles of the City of Calhoun. A State of Georgia funded Georgia Search and Rescue team is housed within the fire department.
