
City of Calhoun Proposed Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Summary
Free Public Wi-Fi Access
The City of Calhoun is proud to announce free public Wi-Fi access is now available at the Downtown Calhoun City Park, Calhoun Recreation Department’s tennis facility, swimming pool, football field, the new baseball/softball complex, the yellow playground, and the Mauldin Road soccer complex.
The free public Wi-Fi will be available between the hours of 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM.
The Wi-Fi network name is CalhounWiFi and the password is Hometown.
Some devices may initially prompt a log in page, but no personal information or account setup will be required for login. Instructional signs will be posted this week in the areas with public Wi-Fi access. You may submit user feedback to wificomments@calnet-ga.net.
We would like to thank Brad Carrick and the staff at Calnet for making this opportunity possible. The equipment was purchased utilizing the Federal Government’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to help implement the goal of additional broadband deployment for the public. Additional locations are under review and consideration, so stay tuned!
Promotion Recognition – Calhoun Fire Department
All of us here at The Calhoun Fire Department would like to take the time to Congratulate and recognize the following employees on their promotions this week within our department.
BILLY GREEN, BRETT SILVERS and JESSE MILLS.

Billy has been a full-time employee of the CFD for the past 16 years and has been serving the department as a Lieutenant/Intermediate EMT. Following his promotion, he will now hold the title of “Battalion Chief”.

Brett has been a full-time employee with the CFD for the past 11 years serving as a Firefighter/Intermediate EMT. Following his promotion, he will now hold the title of “Lieutenant”.

Jesse has been a full-time employee with the CFD for the past 6 years serving as a Firefighter/Advanced EMT. Following his promotion, he also will now hold the title of “Lieutenant”.
“Congratulations” to each of you on your accomplishments, along with these well-deserved promotions. All of your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated and we wish each of you all the best as a new chapter of your journey begins.
Community Development – City Planner
The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a City Planner in the Community Development department.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing professional planning and urban design services and performing long-range planning activities regarding growth management, transportation planning, comprehensive planning, downtown development, zoning, and urban design. Reviewing site development plans, reviewing subdivision plats, administering development-related ordinances and regulations, assisting, and directing developers and individuals, approving zoning related permits, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Reports directly to the Director of Community Development.
Qualifications are valid Georgia driver’s license; Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or closely related field; supplemented by a minimum of one-year previous experience and/or training involving urban planning, local/regional land use, zoning, land development plan review, and site plan review; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

A partnership between Calhoun Utilities, Calhoun City Schools and the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) installed a Solar Array at the Calhoun’s Utilities offices – 700 West Line Street. On sunny days the 48 kW Array produces enough energy to power about 6 typical homes.
