Water/Sewer Construction Laborer

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for laborer in the water/sewer construction department.

Qualifications are high school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license and must be able to obtain CDL within six months; ability to do manual labor such as digging and cleaning out ditches to install new water and sewer lines; make water and sewer taps; install water meters; lay pipe; operate jack hammer and air drill. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.

Mayor $540.00    
City Council Member- Post 1, Post 2 $252.00    
School Board Member- Post 4, Post 5 $1.00    

Qualifying for the offices listed above will be held at City Hall located at 226 South Wall Street, Monday, August 21, 2023 through Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Basic Firefighter

NOTICE

The City of Calhoun Fire Department is now accepting applications for the position of Basic Firefighter.

Qualifications to apply are:

• Must be at least 18 Years Old
• Have a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Are required to have a valid Georgia driver’s license (progressing to class E or F) and maintain throughout employment
• Must not have been convicted of a felony within the last 10 years
• Be physically prepared to take a Timed, Pass or Fail test, which is the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) as prescribed by the Georgia Firefighter’s Standards and Training Council
• Have the ability to pass an extensive background check prior to being considered for a position
• Pass a Medical evaluation and Drug screening after being offered a position.
• Successful candidates will be required to complete and pass an 8 week Rookie School to become a State of Georgia Certified Firefighter progressing to Firefighter 2 and maintain this Certification throughout employment
• After hire, and completions of firefighter rookie school, the successful candidate will be required to obtain an Advanced EMT Certification within 3 years when enrolled in appointed CFD EMT class, and maintain throughout employment.

Successful qualified applicants will be contacted about the date and time of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and practice times. Contacted applicants will then receive an information packet concerning requirements for the CPAT.

Information Regarding City of Calhoun 2023 Alcohol License Renewals

The Department of Revenue will be performing a system upgrade over Labor Day weekend. The Georgia Tax Center (GTC) will be unavailable beginning Friday, September 2 at 8 pm through Monday, September 5 at 8pm. Upon completion of the new upgrade local government alcohol renewal applications will need to be completed via the Georgia Tax Center in conjunction with the renewal of your State alcohol license. The Department of Revenue has provided a pdf entitled “Read more about what to expect after the GTC upgrade” which is available on the GTC website.
All licensees holding a pouring license will be required to complete the “Annual Report – Alcohol Pouring” report in addition to the other required renewal documents. These documents will be available for download through the GTC application process. Please remember, all licensees under this article are required to renew their licenses annually and in a timely manner on or before January 1st each year, and requiring approval by Mayor and Council at a regular scheduled meeting. For this reason, we are requesting renewals be submitted on or before November 15th to allow for timely processing of your application. Once the GTC portal opens on September 6th, local alcohol licensees may begin the renewal process.


O.C.G.A § 3-2-7.1 requires the Department of Revenue to develop and
implement a state-wide centralized application process for initial
applications and renewals of retail licenses. The centralized licensing
process provides a way for retail licensees to simultaneously apply for such
licenses and renewals online. The license types included in the centralized
licensing process are retail (beer/wine), retail package, consumption on
premises (includes distilled spirits), and special events.

Cemetery – Part-Time Laborer

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a part-time laborer at the Cemetery. 

Qualifications include ability to do manual labor and lift up to 75 lbs., ability to operate a weedeater and experience in zero turn lawn mower operation preferred.
