Meter Reader – Calhoun Utilities

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a Meter Reader.

Responsibilities include reading all water and electric meters each month using a hand held electronic meter reading device. Assisting with general maintenance on meter reading trucks. Replacing meter lids on water meters.

Qualifications are high school diploma or equivalent, valid Georgia driver’s license; ability to climb steep banks; cross ditches; ability to drive defensively since job requires 70% driving time; ability to work well with internal/external customers.

Basic Firefighter

NOTICE

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for the position
of Basic Firefighter.

Qualifications to apply are:

• Must be at least 18 Years Old
• Have a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
• Are required to have a valid Georgia driver’s license (progressing to class E or F) and maintain throughout employment
• Must not have been convicted of a felony within the last 10 years
• Be physically prepared to take a Timed, Pass or Fail test, which is the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) as prescribed by the Georgia Firefighter’s Standards and Training Council
• Have the ability to pass an extensive background check prior to being considered for a position
• Pass a medical evaluation and drug screening after being offered a position.
• Successful Candidates will be required to complete and pass an 8 week Rookie School to become a State of Georgia Certified Firefighter progressing to Firefighter 2 and maintain this Certification throughout employment
• After hire, and completions of firefighter rookie school, the successful candidate will be required to obtain an Advanced EMT Certification within 3 years when enrolled in appointed CFD EMT class, and maintain throughout employment.

Successful qualified applicants will be contacted about the date and time of the Candidate Physical Ability Test and practice times. Contacted applicants will then receive an information packet concerning requirements for the CPAT.

Tree Trimmer – Electric Department

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a Tree Trimmer in the Electric Department.

Responsible for trimming and pruning trees, clearing brush and vegetation, maintaining the right of way near energized power lines, ability and knowledge to use equipment and tools used in tree trimming work such as power tools, hand tools, chain saws, hydraulic tree trimming saws, rakes and aerial man lifts, trucks with air breaks, chippers, and hot sticks. This a very physical job requiring a lot of pushing, pulling and lifting.

Community Development – Building Inspector

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a Building Inspector in the Community Development department.

Work Performed:

Review applications for permits for compliance with all related state and local codes, rules, regulations, and ordinances which apply to the City of Calhoun.  Responsible for daily inspection of residential housing, commercial building and industrial projects.  Will also work in the following areas:  Soil and erosion control, flood plain management, grading, storm water management, zoning, land use and other environmental planning areas.  Provide information and assistance to private individuals, companies, developers and state and local officials regarding building codes and ordinances.  Work with local, state and federal agencies as required.  Responsible for complete and concise record keeping concerning inspections and filing reports with the Chief Building Inspector or other agencies as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of five years’ experience in construction or construction related field; preferred bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or other related field with a minimum of three years’ experience in construction related fields.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written and ability to work effectively with the public and local, state and federal agencies.

Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints. Computer literate. Valid Georgia driver’s license.  Obtain within two years of employment knowledge of International Building Code, Standard Building Code, Standard Plumbing, National Electric Code, Mechanical, Gas, Fire Prevention, Existing Buildings, Housing, Swimming Pool, Amusement Device and Unsafe Building Abatement Codes and City of Calhoun Zoning Ordinance.

Also obtain within two years of employment inspector certification. Ability to do field inspections involving squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching and twisting and occasional crawling, ladder, stair and scaffold climbing.
