Building Inspector – Community Development Department

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a Building Inspector in the Community Development Department.

Responsibilities include assisting in the daily operation of building, zoning, and land use in the City of Calhoun; assisting in the inspection of residential, commercial, and industrial construction with emphasis on structural, plumbing, electrical, gas, mechanical, and HVAC.  Responsible for zoning and land use interpretation to ensure compliance with City Ordinances and the Calhoun Comprehensive Plan.

Qualifications are a valid Georgia driver’s license; high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five years’ experience in construction or a construction-related field; associate’s degree or technical diploma in construction management, building construction, engineering technology, architecture, or related field preferred. Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints. Computer literate. Ability to do field inspections involving squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.

Water Construction Laborer


The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a laborer in the Water Construction Department.

Qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a CDL within six months; the capability to do manual labor such as digging and cleaning out ditches to install new water lines; make water taps; install water meters; lay pipe; and operate a jackhammer. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. Emergency standby on a rotational basis is required.

Seeking an experienced and motivated leader to serve and protect our community by performing a variety of complex administrative, managerial and professional work in planning, coordinating, implementing, evaluating, and directing the activities of the Police Department.

Qualifications to apply include a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a closely related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible law enforcement experience; A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible service in senior-level supervisory experience in a Police Department of equivalent size or larger; possession of a valid driver’s license is required.

Community Development – City Planner

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a City Planner in the Community Development Department.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing professional planning and urban design services and performing long-range planning activities regarding growth management, transportation planning, comprehensive planning, downtown development, zoning, and urban design. Reviewing site development plans, reviewing subdivision plats, administering development-related ordinances and regulations, assisting, and directing developers and individuals, approving zoning related permits, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Reports directly to the Director of Community Development.

Qualifications are valid Georgia driver’s license; Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or closely related field; supplemented by a minimum of one-year previous experience and/or training involving urban planning, local/regional land use, zoning, land development plan review, and site plan review; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
