Mission Statement

To enhance the quality of life of all citizens living within Calhoun, Gordon County, regardless of geographic location by seeking to provide a comprehensive range of recreation services designed to contribute to the physical, social and cultural needs of the community.

The City of Calhoun staffs and directs the operations at the River Street recreation facility and Clarence E. Harris River Park. The City is continuing to develop 58.5 acres off of McDaniel Station Road that will eventually be linked to the existing River Street Park. The budget projects 8 full-time employees and approximately 21 part-time and seasonal employees. The Recreation Department currently operates 9 softball and baseball fields, 1 gymnasium, 4 full size soccer fields, 1 football field, 15 tennis courts, 1 pool and several acres of green space. The additional park has 1 football field, 1 pavilion and the largest playground in Northwest Georgia. The park will eventually have more softball/baseball fields and a walking trail.

The Recreation Department currently offers youth baseball, softball, spring and fall soccer, football, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, and swim team. The Recreation Department also offers adult spring softball, fall league softball.

We currently provide programs for approximately 2,400 children ages 4-18. Programs for adults average approximately 1,025 participants.

The swimming pool currently has an estimated usage of over 10,250. This includes daily admission, camps and private pool rentals.

In all, the Calhoun Recreation Department serves over 30,000 citizens on an annual basis. In addition to the participants, youth and adult, we also reserve the pavilion to over 20,000 people a year. With the addition of the new pavilion, this number will be sure to rise. The Recreation Department is proud to also serve many walkers, bicycle riders and playground users. With over 125 acres, there is some green space for everyone.
