Part-Time Recycling Attendant – Recycling Center

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a part-time Recycling Attendant at the Recycling Center.

Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work with the public. Must have a genuine interest in the environment and recycling.

Qualifications include a valid Georgia driver’s license, performing physical labor, and lifting to 50lbs.

MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF CALHOUN – QUALIFYING RESULTS

Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-132 and O.C.G.A. 21-2-9 (b) a municipal general election will be held for the City of Calhoun on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Calhoun Recreation Department located at 601 River Street, Calhoun, Georgia from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Qualifying for the municipal general election was held August 18th through the 20th with the following qualifying:

City Council Post 3:Ed Moyer, Incumbent
City Council Post 4:Ray Mitchell Denmon, Incumbent
Bruce Potts
School Board Post 1:Andy Baxter, Incumbent
School Board Post 2:Rhodak Washington, Incumbent
School Board Post 3:Stephen King, Incumbent

Early voting will begin on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 and will end on Friday, October 31, 2025.  Office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  We will have early voting on Saturday, October 18, 2025 and Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 9 a. m. until 5 p.m. in the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office. The Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office is located in the Gordon County Courthouse at 100 S Wall Street, Calhoun, Georgia.   

To request an absentee ballot by mail contact the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office at 706-629-7781.  The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is October 24, 2025. 

The last day to register to vote for the municipal general election is Monday, October 6, 2025.  Registration is available at the Gordon County Board of Elections Office, City Hall or other locations as required by Georgia Law.

Resolution Enacting Moratorium on New Applications for Retail Establishments Seeking Alcohol/THC Sales

A resolution enacting a 180-day emergency moratorium on the acceptance or consideration of all applications for zoning decisions, land disturbance permits, and licenses for gas stations, convenience stores, food marts and other retail establishments seeking to sell alcoholic or THC-infused consumables for off-premises consumption. The moratorium will remain in place until January 3, 2026.

Utilities Engineering Department – Project Engineer

The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for a Project Engineer opening in the Utilities Engineering Department.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the preparation of construction drawings for water/wastewater capital improvement projects, feasibility assessments, technical review of private development design, regulatory permitting, and coordination with utility contractors. Reports directly to the Utilities Engineering Manager.

Candidates must have a valid Georgia driver’s license, bachelor’s degree in engineering with a proficiency in AutoCAD, strong work ethic, good attitude, aptitude for making educated decisions, and fundamental knowledge of fluid dynamics.
