Mission Statement
We, the Calhoun Police Department, will serve our community with the highest degree of honesty, integrity, and professionalism. We will meet the needs of our diverse community through the continued cooperation of our administration, and by cementing a bond between the citizenry, other area law enforcement agencies, and ourselves. We will not forget that we exist to serve and that by enforcing the law justly and fairly, we can bring stability into our society, as no other agency can.
The Police Department is presently budgeted for 51 full-time employees and 18 part-time or seasonal employees. The Department is presently located downtown, with a second precinct located on Highway 41 South. The Department is responsible for traffic control, investigations, and arrest of those committing misdemeanor and felony violation within the city limits. The patrolmen cover approximately 98 miles of road within 13 square miles, 24 hours daily. The primary purpose of the Police Department is to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits, while providing professional law enforcement service to all. To attain this, the department enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons. The department actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens to decrease the opportunities for crime, to facilitate the maximum use of resources. The Department will continue to implement a training program to fill the training needs of officers and promote a high level of proficiency in the officers of the Department.
