The City of Calhoun is now accepting applications for laborer in the water/sewer construction department.
Qualifications are high school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license and must be able to obtain CDL within six months; ability to do manual labor such as digging and cleaning out ditches to install new water and sewer lines; make water and sewer taps; install water meters; lay pipe; operate jack hammer and air drill. Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.

IPR Southeast, a contractor for the City of Calhoun, will be replacing Sanitary Sewer lines in the downtown area. The project will begin Monday, May 15th, 2017 and last for several months. Service disruptions will be kept to a minimum. Traffic control measures will be in effect to allow construction crews access to the existing sewer lines. At this time roads will remain open to local traffic. If possible please avoid construction areas to eliminate congestion. Updates will be posted as the project progresses. Monday, May 8th at the Calhoun City Council meeting:
First reading for amendments to the Calhoun Utility Rate Resolution. Changes include a 14% rate increase for outside the city water and sewer rates, a 5% wholesale accounts increase, and includes that all water meters are subject to the appropriate monthly minimum charges.
